Mastiff Kitchen Exits North Park Beer Co After Nearly a Decade

Mastiff Kitchen will serve its final meals at North Park Beer Co on Sunday, May 3, 2026, ending a partnership that has run since 2016 and stood as one of San Diego’s longest brewery-kitchen pairings.

The decision came from the brewery. In a statement announcing the departure, North Park Beer Co said it was “excited to bring our beverage and food programs more closely together,” a shift the company had already completed at its other two venues in Bankers Hill and Crown Point.

Mastiff, founded in 2013 by Jacob Bartlett and Chef Eric Gallerstein, began as a food truck and moved into the North Park Beer Co space three years later. It is best known locally for sausages, Detroit-style pizzas, smash burgers, and other beer-friendly fare. In a statement of its own, Mastiff said “after 10 incredible years in North Park, we’re saddened to share that Mastiff Kitchen at North Park Beer Co will be closing,” adding that “while this decision was not ours, we’re proud of what we built here.”

What Happens Next For Both Sides

North Park Beer Co will take over the kitchen operation at its University Avenue flagship following Mastiff’s May 3 service and will run food programming in-house, mirroring the setup at its Bankers Hill and Crown Point venues.

Mastiff will continue operating its La Mesa flagship on Palm Avenue, which opened in 2023 and serves the same core menu that built the brand’s reputation. The company also runs three concepts at Liberty Public Market in Point Loma (Fluster Cluck Chicken, Rad Burger, and The Pig’s Gig BBQ).

Mastiff confirmed that it is actively searching for a new San Diego location to replace the North Park outpost.

Context On Brewery-Kitchen Pairings

The Mastiff partnership was one of the more durable examples of a pattern common in San Diego’s brewery scene, where independent kitchens contract space inside taprooms rather than operate standalone restaurants. These arrangements give breweries a food program without the complexity of running a kitchen and give chefs a built-in beverage revenue stream they do not have to build themselves.

North Park Beer Co’s move follows its own internal pattern of bringing food operations under the same roof as its beer program, a shift the brewery has now applied across all three of its venues.
